What to do in Marbella summer 2024

Marbella may have a reputation as a glitzy playground for the rich and famous; a life of parties, beautiful people, designer stores, luxury property sales and mega-mansions in Marbella…but this is only half of the story. There is so much more to the Marbella lifestyle, as this sun-drenched part of southern Spain is blessed with a wonderful climate, bountiful fresh produce, beautiful countryside and of course some of the best beaches in the world.

To make sure you are not missing out, here are some of just a few of the varied activities you can enjoy throughout the summer of 2024.

Soak up the summer sunshine

Marbella is famed for its all-year-round sunshine and microclimate afforded by the shelter of La Concha Mountain.  Summer time is when the mercury really rises, with an average temperature throughout July and August of around 30°C. it is the perfect excuse to take it easy over a long relaxing lunch or to take a refreshing swim in the sea.  However, the best way to enjoy the summer sunshine in your own villa in Marbella with a private pool, where you can soak up the sunshine before diving in for refreshing swim. Heaven!

Perfect for sea and land lovers

Heading to the beach is a great activity for everyone, whether you prefer to get in the water or stay on dry land. If you don’t like to get your feet wet, you can run, stroll or sit on a bench whilst soaking up the stunning sea views on Marbella’s 12km promenade. It starts on the eastern side of Marbella at Puerto Bajadilla and stretches all of the way to San Pedro de Alcantara.

Alternatively, if you want to make the most of your close proximity to the Mediterranean, there are plenty of water-based activities available. Firstly, who doesn’t like sailing on a luxury yacht as you watch the beautiful coastline glide by? Maybe you would like to go out deep sea fishing, whale or dolphin spotting. It is also possible to rent a catamaran, take diving lessons, stand up paddle boarding, jetskiing or banana boating.

A head for heights

Throughout the summer months, it is a regular site to see a helicopter transferring people to their luxury villas in La Zagaleta, Benahavís… But why stop at transfers when you could take a helicopter tour?  If you have a head for heights and a hankering to take control, you could train for your pilot licence. Alternatively, if you simply want to feel the wind in your hair and get you feet off the ground why not consider parasailing.

See you at the golf club?

What can we say about the superb range of golf courses on the ‘Costa del Golf’ that hasn’t already been said?  Any golfer will know that the golf season starts in the autumn when the temperature cools down, but this doesn’t mean that summer time isn’t a great time to explore the many superb golf resorts. It is also a good opportunity to investigate the range of golf properties for sale in Marbella, including La Quinta Golf and Country Club, Marbella Club Golf Resort, Anantara Villa Padierna and many more.

Málaga feria 2024

Each town has its own patron saint which is celebrated by a weeklong festival or feria, for example, Marbella’s Feria de San Bernabé is in the first week of June.  But don’t worry, if you will be on the Costa del Sol between 17th and 24th of August, you can catch the Málaga Fair. This annual event will kick off with a firework display at midnight on the 16th of August in the port. The following day the party relocates to the main shopping district Calle Larios in Málaga’s city centre, where you’ll see party goers in traditional Andalusian dress, and there’ll be singing and dancing to typical flamenco style music and songs, parades, concerts and of course plenty to eat and drink. At the local fairground will host around 180 stands and the party will continue late into the night.

Open summer cinema

Throughout the summer, you can enjoy a film in an open-air cinema on a warm summer night under the stars until the 12th August. This year, there will be over 121 screenings organised by Málaga City Council, at these locations: La Malagueta, La Misericordia and El Palo beaches, and also Plaza de la Esperanza and the Russian Museum. Starlite Festival Marbella 2024

This boutique festival is one of the largest and most impressive music, fashion and cultural events to take place annually in Spain.  This year’s event kicked off mid-June and will last throughout the entire summer until the last day in August. An expected line up of over 60 acts will include both international and Spanish stars, ranging Take That to the Gypsy Kings, who will play on the atmosphere stage at Cantara de Nagüeles just above Marbella’s Golden Mile. Tickets can be purchased from the website here.
