NEW GOLDEN MILE, Estepona
If you are interested in sourcing luxury real estate sales or investment property, you will most likely have heard of Marbella’s Golden Mile, famed for its million beachside dream homes. However, you may not yet have heard about the New Golden Mile, Estepona.
To clarify, the difference between the original ‘Golden Mile’ and the ‘New Golden Mile; the ‘Golden Mile’ is a beautiful stretch of coastline running between Marbella and Puerto Banús, spanning approximately one mile (2kms) of golden sandy beaches. The area is renowned for 5-star hotels, gastronomy, high end shopping, and of course, this is where you can also find some of the most glamorous mansions for sale in Marbella.
Whereas the ‘New Golden Mile’ is located further west, starting in San Pedro de Alcantara (on the west edge of the municipality of Marbella) and finishing in Estepona’s town centre. The New Golden Mile is much longer than the original ‘Golden Mile’, covering around 12 miles (over 19kms).
In recent years, the New Golden Mile has been quietly gaining a reputation as an extremely desirable place to live and visit, becoming one of the most sought-after locations in Southern Spain. The area offers a wide range of high-quality property developments, ranging from multimillion euro investment property to more widely affordable price tags, including Alcazaba Beach, Bel Air, Benamara, El Pilar, El Presidente, Las Dunas Park, Los Granados del Mar, Los Granados Playa, Mar Azul, Costalita, Menara Beach, Park Beach, Riviera Andaluza and the Kempinski Hotel Private Suites.
It is widely known amongst high end real estate agents, that premium property in this area like the exclusive beachfront complexes of luxury apartments and penthouses in the ultra-exclusive Torre Bermejo and Cabo Bermejo private gated communities are also at the top of many buyers’ wish lists. And that finding villas for sale in Los Flamingos or similar exclusive enclaves are in short supply and high demand. There is also the added bonus that the New Golden Mile in Estepona is protected by the regional government’s planning and development strategy, prohibiting the high-rise buildings along the seafront.
In addition to the high-quality housing stock and unspoiled locations, the New Golden Mile area is also home to some of the Costa del Sol’s grandest hotels. One of the most prestigious is the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace, which has hosted many high-profile guests including Michelle Obama. The nearby Kempinski Hotel Bahia Marbella is world renowned, not only for glamour and exquisite beachside location, but also for displaying the world’s most expensive Christmas tree valued at around 15 million US dollars. There are also other popular hotels including El Campanario Country Club, Selenza Thalasso and Spa. Senator Banus Spa Hotel and Ikos Andusia which has just had a 17€ million face lift.
Hand in hand with 5-star hotels you’ll find superb amenities including Spas, wellness centres, fine dining restaurant, cafes and bars. Depending on your preference you could try The Garden by La Rosa in Atalaya for a low-key relaxed vibe, Tikitano Beach Restaurant or the Kempinski Hotel’s Baltazar Bar and Grill to name a few.
The New Golden Mile coastline also offers a choice of fantastic beach clubs, including the Spiler Beach Club at the Kempinski, Salduna Beach, Sonora Beach and Trocadero Estepona Beach Club.
Golf enthusiasts are also well-catered for on the New Golden Mile, there are numerous superb world-class golf clubs, including El Paraiso Golf Club, Atalaya Golf and Country Club, Valle Romano Golf, Los Flamingos Golf, La Resina Golf & Country Club and Villa Padierna’s three 18-hole golf courses, to name but a few of the facilities in the area.
The area is also well serviced for everyday living, including access to excellent international bi-lingual private and state schools, kindergartens to secondary school level. Similarly, the Spanish national health system offers a comprehensive service and there are many excellent private doctors and clinics, such as Clinica del Rio (with clinics in both Marbella and Estepona) and Hospiten both located on the New Golden Mile, Estepona.
The area is ideally located for easy international access, around 45 minutes from both Málaga and Gibraltar airports. The position is also convenient for visiting the upmarket enclave of Sotogrande to the west and the neighbouring hotspots of Puerto Banús and Marbella are just a short 15 to 20 minutes’ drive in the car. What’s more as you drive along the New Golden Mile, you can soak up some of the most breath-taking Mediterranean views, spanning as far as Gibraltar and North Africa.
